How to use the UTM builder

Consistent UTM tagging is the difference between "Facebook brought in some sales" and knowing exactly which ad set and creative drove them. This builder gives you a ready-made template for each major ad platform.

    1. Pick your platform

Choosing a preset fills in the source and medium, plus that platform's dynamic parameters where it supports them (Meta, Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, TikTok, Taboola and Outbrain). The platform swaps those placeholders for real campaign and ad names on every click, so one template covers every ad.

    2. Add your URL, or a list of them

Use Single link for one landing page, or Bulk URLs to tag a whole list at once and export it as a CSV. Existing query strings and #anchors are kept, and any old UTM tags on the URL are replaced.

    3. Paste it in the right place

    • Meta Ads Manager: ad level → Tracking → URL parameters. Paste the "Parameters only" output.
    • Google Ads & Microsoft Ads: Final URL suffix (account, campaign or ad group level). Paste "Parameters only".
    • TikTok: in the destination URL at ad level, using the full tagged URL.
    • Taboola & Outbrain: the campaign's tracking code / URL parameters field.
    • Email, social posts and QR codes: use the full tagged URL.

    Naming tips

    • Keep everything lowercase. UTMs are case-sensitive, and mixed case splits your reports.
    • Pick one separator (hyphens or underscores) and stick to it.
    • Use the same medium names every time, such as paid_social, cpc, paid_native and email, so GA4 groups channels correctly.
    • Platforms occasionally rename their dynamic parameters. Check a test click in GA4 Realtime before a big launch.

    What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL, such as ?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social, that tell Google Analytics and other tools where a visitor came from. They let you see which platform, campaign and ad drove each visit, lead or sale.
    Which UTM parameters are required?
Use utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign on every link. utm_content (the ad or creative), utm_term (keyword or ad set) and utm_id (campaign ID) are optional but make reporting far more useful.
    What are dynamic parameters?
Dynamic parameters (also called macros or ValueTrack parameters) are placeholders like {{campaign.name}} that the ad platform replaces with the real campaign, ad set or ad name when someone clicks. One tracking template then works for every ad, with no manual tagging.
Where do I paste UTMs in Meta Ads Manager?
At ad level, under Tracking, paste the parameters (everything after the ?) into the URL parameters field rather than adding them to the website URL. Use the "Parameters only" output above.
Where do I put UTMs in Google Ads?
Paste the parameters into the Final URL suffix at account, campaign or ad group level. Keep auto-tagging switched on as well: GA4 uses the gclid for Google Ads data, and UTMs make the traffic readable in other tools.
    Should UTMs be lowercase?
Yes. UTM values are case-sensitive, so "Facebook" and "facebook" show up as two different sources. This builder lowercases your typed values by default, but never changes dynamic parameters, which must stay exactly as the platform expects.
Why does my native traffic show as "Unassigned" in GA4?
GA4 sorts traffic into channels using the medium. A medium of just "native" doesn't match a paid channel. Mediums that start with "paid" (like paid_native) or contain "cp" (like cpc) are treated as paid traffic, so the presets here use those.

Tracking set up, but the numbers still don't add up?

We set up pixels, conversion APIs, GA4 and attribution properly, then use the data to scale what's working across every major ad platform.
